Ray Charles e il conflitto razziale

Negli anni di maggior successo Ray Charles dovette decidere se esibirsi negli stati a maggioranza razzista, da cui lui stesso proveniva, del sud, e chinarsi davanti alle esigenze di spettacolo e guadagno. Scelse un epocale rifiuto. Bandito degli stessi stati gli fu proibito di esibirsi. Sarà riabilitato circa trent’anni dopo, e la sua canzone più nota “Georgia on my mind” diverrà il simbolo della rinascita di uno stato che con largo ritardo si emanciperà e cancellerà definitivamente i segni dell’ignoranza e dell’intolleranza razziale.
